"Our GFMBO 2015 winner, Jenny Swift, came to visit us here at Delicious Alchemy HQ last month. Part of her prize was a trip to the beautiful 2 Oxford Place in Leeds for gluten free afternoon tea, which you can read about here. The other part of her prize was to recreate her winning bake and have it professionally photographed right here at our office.
We love to celebrate getting creative in the kitchen and showing the world that gluten free doesn’t mean you have to miss out on any delicious baking. Jenny proved that with her three-tiered masterpiece, “Tickle Your Tastebuds – A Trio of Flavours” - click here for the recipe.
As we have come to expect with the GFMBO competition, the standards remained high this year and the creativity delighted us all. Thanks again to all of you who got involved and sent in photos of your inspirational bakes! In the end, we chose the cake that we thought was the perfect celebration cake – we loved the quality finish of Jenny’s bake and the thoughtful decoration to each of the layers. It really was a feast for the eyes – as well as our bellies! The bottom layer was a zingy lemon and poppy seed sponge with a lemon curd filling, covered with citrus decorations. Above this was a coffee sponge and coffee buttercream, sprinkled with walnut pieces. The grand finale to this cake was the top tier, a chocolate sponge with chocolate chips, chocolate buttercream and a selection of winter berries to top it all off! This cake had something for everyone and was an absolute pleasure to look at. We had a fabulous day with Jenny and seeing her bake was the “icing on the cake”! Of course, it was just a happy coincidence that we got a chance to sample it too - and we can confirm it was absolutely delicious! Jenny runs her own cake-baking business and it will come as no surprise that her business is called Celebration Gift Cakes.
